Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Maal (the "App"), the Maal web dashboard at noorlabs.io/dashboard, the Maal website at noorlabs.io, or any other service provided by Noor Labs, LLC ("Noor Labs," "we," "us," or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App or any of our Services.

Noor Labs, LLC is a California limited liability company. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Noor Labs, LLC.

2. Description of Service

Maal is an Islamic financial management platform that assists Muslims in calculating and tracking their Zakat obligations, managing transactions and budgets, and organizing their financial life. The Services include:

• The Maal mobile app (iOS; Android planned)
• The Maal web dashboard (noorlabs.io/dashboard)
• The Maal website (noorlabs.io)

Key features of the App include:

• Tracking of financial assets, liabilities, transactions, and budgets
• Integration with financial institutions via Plaid Technologies, Inc. to retrieve account balances and transactions
• Automated nisab threshold calculation using live gold and silver prices
• Hawl (lunar year) tracking to determine when Zakat becomes obligatory
• Zakat estimation based on widely accepted positions in Islamic jurisprudence
• Zakat payment tracking and charity directory with donation links
• Manual account, transaction, and budget management

3. Account Registration and Responsibility

To access certain features of the App, you must create an account. You may register using a valid email address and password, or through an approved third-party authentication provider (currently Google and Apple Sign-In). Authentication is managed through Supabase Auth.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and keep it updated
• Safeguard your password and restrict access to your account
• Notify us immediately of any suspected unauthorized access to your account by emailing hello@noorlabs.io
• Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not authorized by you

Noor Labs reserves the right to disable any account that we believe has been compromised or used in violation of these Terms.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms. You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the App, its backend systems, servers, databases, or networks connected to the App
• Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the App
• Transmit any viruses, malware, trojan horses, worms, or other harmful or destructive code through the App
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the App or the data contained therein
• Use any automated means to access the App or collect data from it without our express written permission
• Misrepresent your identity or impersonate any person or entity

5. Financial Data Disclaimer

Maal is a financial tracking and calculation tool only. Nothing in the App, on our website, or in any communication from Noor Labs constitutes financial, tax, investment, or legal advice. The App does not account for your individual financial circumstances. You should consult a qualified financial professional before making any financial decisions based on information provided by the App.

While Noor Labs makes reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of calculations, asset valuations, nisab thresholds, and other figures within the App, we make no warranty that calculations are error-free, complete, or suitable for your purposes. You are solely responsible for independently verifying any calculation before acting on it.

Financial data retrieved through Plaid (including bank balances and transactions) may be delayed, incomplete, or may not reflect real-time account status. Noor Labs is not responsible for inaccuracies in data provided by Plaid or your financial institution.

6. Zakat Disclaimer

Maal does not provide Islamic legal (fiqh) rulings, fatwas, or religious guidance of any kind. Zakat calculations within the App are based on widely accepted scholarly positions; however, legitimate differences of opinion exist among qualified Islamic scholars on various aspects of Zakat calculation. Noor Labs makes no claim of religious authority.

You are strongly encouraged to consult a qualified Islamic scholar (alim) regarding your specific Zakat obligations, especially for complex situations involving business assets, investments, agricultural produce, or debts.

The charity directory within the App contains links to charitable organizations, some of which are affiliate or referral links. This is clearly disclosed in the App. Noor Labs does not endorse any specific charity or guarantee how donated funds are used by third-party organizations.

7. Third-Party Services

Maal integrates with third-party services to provide its functionality. By using the App, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

7.1 Plaid Technologies, Inc.

By linking a bank account through the App, you authorize Noor Labs to retrieve your account balance and transaction information through Plaid. Your bank credentials are entered directly into Plaid's secure interface and are never transmitted to or stored by Noor Labs. Plaid access tokens are stored server-side only. By using this feature, you agree to Plaid's Privacy Policy and End User Privacy Policy. You may disconnect linked accounts at any time.

7.2 Stripe, Inc.

Donations to Noor Labs and future subscription payments may be processed through Stripe. All payment information (card number, billing address) is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers. By making a payment, you agree to Stripe's Terms of Service.

7.3 Other Third-Party Services

Additional third-party services used by Maal include Supabase (authentication and database), Cloudflare (website hosting, API server, DNS), Resend (transactional emails), Apple (TestFlight, App Store, push notifications), RevenueCat (subscription management, planned), and Expo/EAS (app build and update infrastructure). Each service's own terms and privacy policy apply to the extent they process your data. Full details are available in our Privacy Policy.

8. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, user interface, source code, content, graphics, logos, and all other materials, is owned by or licensed to Noor Labs, LLC and is protected by United States and international intellectual property laws.

Subject to these Terms, Noor Labs grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, or commercially exploit any portion of the App without our prior written consent.

You retain full ownership of all personal financial data you input into the App. Noor Labs does not claim any ownership interest in your data. Our use of your data is governed by our Privacy Policy.

9. Beta / Early Access Disclaimer

Certain features of Maal may be offered in "beta," "early access," or "preview" status. By using beta features, you acknowledge and agree that:

• Beta features may contain bugs, errors, or inaccuracies and may not function as expected
• Data associated with beta features may be lost, corrupted, or reset without notice
• Beta features may be modified, suspended, or removed at any time without prior notice
• Beta features are provided "as is" without any warranty of any kind
• Noor Labs shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of beta features

We strongly recommend maintaining your own records of important financial data independently of the App, especially while using beta or early access features.

10. Subscription Terms

Maal offers a free tier with core features and a Pro subscription with full access (pricing to be determined). Subscription management is handled through RevenueCat (planned) and processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each subscription period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You may manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's App Store account settings.

Noor Labs does not offer refunds for subscription payments, except as required by applicable law or as mandated by Apple App Store or Google Play Store policies. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, please contact the relevant App Store directly.

11. Donation Terms

Noor Labs accepts voluntary donations through Stripe. By making a donation, you acknowledge and agree that:

• Donations are voluntary and non-refundable
• Donations do not entitle you to any additional features, services, or special treatment
• Noor Labs, LLC is not a 501(c)(3) organization; donations are not tax-deductible
• Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe; your payment information never touches our servers

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:

• NOOR LABS, LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP.
• OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100) OR (B) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID TO NOOR LABS IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.
• NOOR LABS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY ERRORS OR INACCURACIES IN ZAKAT CALCULATIONS, ANY FAILURE TO MEET OR MISSED ZAKAT OBLIGATIONS, OR ANY RELIGIOUS, SPIRITUAL, OR MORAL CONSEQUENCES ARISING FROM YOUR RELIANCE ON THE APP.
• NOOR LABS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, INCLUDING FINANCIAL DATA, TRANSACTIONS, BUDGETS, OR ZAKAT RECORDS, WHETHER CAUSED BY TECHNICAL FAILURE, BETA FEATURE BEHAVIOR, OR ANY OTHER REASON.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law.

13. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NOOR LABS EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT
• WARRANTIES THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS
• WARRANTIES AS TO THE ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR COMPLETENESS OF ANY CONTENT, CALCULATIONS, OR FINANCIAL DATA PROVIDED BY THE APP
• WARRANTIES REGARDING THE AVAILABILITY OR PERFORMANCE OF THIRD-PARTY SERVICES (INCLUDING PLAID, STRIPE, AND SUPABASE)

14. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Noor Labs, LLC and its members, officers, employees, agents, and licensors from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with:

• Your access to or use of the App
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any applicable law or regulation
• Your violation of any third-party rights, including intellectual property or privacy rights

15. Termination

You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time through the Settings section of the App. Deletion of your account will result in the removal of all your personal data from Supabase in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Local data on your device is cleared upon sign-out.

Noor Labs reserves the right to suspend or permanently terminate your access to the App, with or without notice, if we believe in our sole discretion that you have violated these Terms, engaged in fraudulent or illegal activity, or posed a risk to the safety or security of our systems or other users.

Upon termination for any reason, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 8, 12, 13, 14, and 17) shall survive.

16. Changes to Terms

Noor Labs reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Revised" date at the top of this page and, where practicable, provide notice through an in-app notification. Your continued use of the App after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

We encourage you to review these Terms periodically. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the App and may delete your account through Settings.

17. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Informal Resolution. Before initiating any formal dispute resolution, you agree to first contact Noor Labs at hello@noorlabs.io and attempt to resolve the dispute informally. You and Noor Labs agree to make good-faith efforts to resolve any dispute for a period of thirty (30) days following the date of notice.

Binding Arbitration. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally within the 30-day window, you and Noor Labs agree that any and all disputes, claims, or controversies arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App shall be resolved exclusively through final and binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, which are available at adr.org. The arbitration shall take place in California. The arbitrator's award shall be final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Waiver of Jury Trial and Class Action. BY AGREEING TO THESE TERMS, YOU WAIVE YOUR RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL AND YOUR RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION, CLASS ARBITRATION, OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING.

Emergency Relief. Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may seek emergency injunctive or other equitable relief from a court of competent jurisdiction in California to prevent irreparable harm pending the outcome of arbitration.

18. Privacy

Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, available at noorlabs.io/maal/privacy. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the App, you consent to the data practices described in the Privacy Policy. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and the Privacy Policy with respect to the handling of your personal data, the Privacy Policy shall govern.
